We would all be geniuses if we were just graded by the brilliant ideas we come up with. It’s just that we don’t know how to execute on all these brilliant ideas.

The Entrepreneur

It was the third time in four years. His idea was already implemented even before he could start working on it. Someone was stealing his ideas. A question from a long-time friend nailed it – “Do you know how many OTHER people had the same idea and didn’t execute?”

Mini Saga #24 - Requirements Analysis

by Rajesh Setty on Wed 16 Apr 2008 09:31 AM EDT

Software Professionals or otherwise, we are always responding to requests based on our understanding of the request. If you get the request wrong, then…

=============

Requirements Analysis

Little Tommy asked Mom – “Where did I come from?”. Mom struggled for twenty minutes to explain things around sex. Tommy responded with a blank face - “This is a bit confusing. Johnny told me he is from Columbus, Ohio and I wanted to know where I came from…”

Mini Saga #23 - Networking

by Rajesh Setty on Thu 03 Apr 2008 09:34 AM EDT

If something is too good to be true, it probably is…

========================

Networking

The conference pitch was compelling – “$400 to meet about 4000 people”. John signed up immediately and was looking forward to the networking event. The conference was great but not the networking. Ninety-five percent of attendees there wanted help badly and were only hunting for those five-percent who had help.

Mini Saga #22 - The Trend

by Rajesh Setty on Wed 30 Jan 2008 02:28 AM EST

The Trend

John could not understand the reason for third failure in
a row. He had a blockbuster success during the dot-com
days so this was really puzzling. Finally, his mentor’s question
solved the mystery for him - “John, what was the real
reason for your success first time - You or the Trend?”

Mini Saga #20 - Happiness

by Rajesh Setty on Sun 13 Jan 2008 20:57 PM EST

Happiness

It was a good year for John. His hard work had handsomely paid off albeit with sacrifices on the family side. When he told his friend Bob that he had many reasons to be happy about the year, Bob asked – “Why do you need a reason to be happy?”

Mini Saga #19 - The Missing Piece

by Rajesh Setty on Wed 05 Dec 2007 09:32 AM EST

The Missing Piece

I was at a writers’ conference earlier this week. The moderator asked for people to list their expectations from the conference. The expectations ranged from wanting to sell more books to building a good network. What was strikingly missing was that nobody said “I want to become a better writer”.

Mini Saga #18 - The Sales Seminar

by Rajesh Setty on Wed 21 Mar 2007 17:19 PM EDT
The Sales Seminar

John was eager to learn to sell. The promise was compelling. $99 and a day with the gurus of real estate, John would be a better sales person. All the speakers were good. By the end of the day, John had purchased goods in excess of $1000. John was sold!

Mini Saga #16 - The Startup

by Rajesh Setty on Sat 10 Mar 2007 11:33 AM EST

The Startup

John never thought getting deals would be a problem for his new venture. He had a big network. Twenty meetings were setup in the first six weeks. Every meeting was good. Everyone wanted to know what John was doing. No one was bold enough to give him the first deal.
