I got (or stole, really) this one from an email from Terry at PSVillage. I am a big fan of Buckminister Fuller and his work. This simple quote from him is about focusing on WIIFT (What’s in it for them). I wish everyone followed a simple rule of  keeping

WIIFT > WIIFM

Enjoy the quote

Quotes worth recording - Gertrude Stein

by Rajesh Setty on Mon 31 Mar 2008 08:23 AM EDT

If I had just understood this quote and internalized it when I started my first company almost a decade ago, I would have had a more peaceful “first-time entrepreneur” experience.

Enjoy the quote and have a great week ahead!

_____________

“It is awfully important to know what is and what is not your business”

- Gertrude Stein

Quotes worth recording - Sir. M. Visvesvarayya

by Rajesh Setty on Tue 01 Jan 2008 16:30 PM EST

This quote comes to me from V.V. Rangathan who serves as the chairman of Compassites India Pvt Ltd apart from many other interesting and exciting projects he is involved with.

I was fortunate to witness the amazing work of Sir. M. Visvesvarayya during my student days at Mysore. The dam that Sir MV supervised from concept to completion at Krishnarajasagar (KRS) near Mysore is supposed to have created the biggest reservoir in Asia at the time it was built.

The quote simply calls for excellence way beyond the bar set by the society. Again, a great perspective to start the new year with. Enjoy!

- Sir M. Visvesvarayya

Quotes worth recording - Jules Renard

by Rajesh Setty on Sun 16 Dec 2007 12:44 PM EST

There is a common phrase used to describe some job candidates - “I don’t know whether he has 10 years of experience or 1 year of experience repeated 10 times”. It is just not how many years of experience you have that matters. “What” that experience was becomes important. Here is a quick quote that summarizes this brilliantly

Quotes worth recording - Bob Buford

by Rajesh Setty on Wed 12 Dec 2007 08:36 AM EST

Just assume that you agree with Bob’s definitions of success and significance. If you do, try and answer these questions:

1. What am I going after - success or significance?

2. Are you happy about it?

==========

“Success means using your knowledge and experience to satisfy yourself

Significance means using your knowledge and experience to change the lives of others”

            - Bob Buford

Quotes worth recording - Eric Hoffer

by Rajesh Setty on Thu 15 Nov 2007 10:24 AM EST

Thanks to Sterling, our Vistage Chair for sharing this quote at yesterday’s meeting.  These few lines have a lot to offer. In fact, please share this quote to as many friends as possible.

Think about it. Today, you are equipped to deal with issues and challenges and go after opportunities of today. A few years from now, world would have changed (significantly) and what you have today (eg: skills, knowledge, network etc.) won’t e sufficient to  handle what  the future will unfold for you. Most people will do NOTHING about it as they are students of “Learning on the Go” school.

What does not change is that you have a choice. Investing in yourself is not a one-time thing. You have to do it for the rest of your life.

Enjoy the quote:

“Those who stop learning find themselves equipped to live in a world that no longer exists”

- Eric Hoffer

Quotes worth recording - Jonathan Swift

by Rajesh Setty on Sun 04 Nov 2007 14:30 PM EST

Want to command a premium?

You can start with creating compelling visions (and, of course, build the capacity to execute on them)

“Vision is the art of seeing what is invisible to others”

- Jonathan Swift

Quotes worth recording - John Milton

by Rajesh Setty on Sun 02 Sep 2007 06:16 AM EDT

If everything is made up, you can make up hell or you can make up heaven. Which one are you making up?

————————————————————

“The mind is its own place,
and in itself can make heaven of hell,
or a hell of heaven”

- John Milton

Quotes worth recording - Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev

by Rajesh Setty on Sun 05 Aug 2007 20:54 PM EDT

I am deeply touched by Sadhguru’s teachings. You can learn more about him and his work at Isha Yoga. You can see a glimpse of what insights Sadhguru can pack in this simple quote.

I have heard from my other teachers and mentors that the key skill a professional has to learn is the art of building an identity in the marketplace. However, it is important to remember that this “identity” cannot be a fake one - meaning you can’t make it up. Your identity is just that - it represents “who you are”. So there is no other option left but to work on “who you are”.

Enjoy the quote and the week ahead!

“Work is an expression of who you are. So who you are is what needs to be worked out”

- Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev
