What are you paying for making money?

Generally speaking, you work and get paid. Did you ever think that you really pay to get paid. Let me explain…
There are two kinds of making money.
One, where you work and during that work, you are learning and enhancing your knowledge that will get you equipped to get future work.
Two, where you work and during that work, you are not learning much and there are few opportunities for enhancing your knowledge. In other words, as you make money with this kind of work, chances of you not being ready for “future work” are high.
In the second case, you pay dearly for the money you are earning.
So, think about it:
How much are you paying for what you are earning today?
PS: This is the reason why most call center jobs are disturbing for me. When someone says it’s a great opportunity, I tend to agree - but the opportunity is great only for the employer.

Rajesh,
What you say makes sense. But there will always be jobs that are required to serve a current need. Call center jobs are just one example, we have L1 support (help-desk), data entry (paper to digital) and so on. If we move away from IT, it is much more obvious.
Now for being ready for the future, adaptability is the key. As you say, the risk is when we settle down wherever we are. More often than not, the changes are gradual than sudden, so it certainly is helpful to remain watchful!
Good point Deepak. I should have been clear when I talked about call center jobs. I was only referring to those call center jobs where the work is “mechanical” for the most part.
Thank you for catching that.
Best,
Rajesh
Right, and it is better to enjoy what we do rather than do what brings us money. The enjoyment and satisfaction will give lot more security and contentment than a 20% more money doing things that you do not want.
Hi Rajesh,
HOw do you make such diagrams. I would liek to do a similar thing on my blog to explain some concepts to people.
DO you make on paper and take a picture or can it be done on some online tool/site.
Thanks and apologize for the off topic.
Hi Aditya,
How are you doing?
My inspiration for drawing comes from Dan Roam. You can read more about him at
