If there is one thing that you can do well when you are building a relationship, think about what you can do to make the other person (in the conversation) feel “good about himself or herself” at the end of your conversation. Lisa Kirk puts this brilliantly as she categorizes people into three types

I set some expectations in my relationship. I like to be in relations where people like me than I like them. So, you set expectations like this - please call me more often that I call you!, talk to me something totally irrelevant that will keep me interested, and spend time with me one-on-one when I am bored. This way, I see to that I am always not bored. And when I am feeling good, I am with a gang of people and they all like me for what I am! PS: I like anyone who likes me and who does not trouble me!
